Setting up your IT at UCT: staff

Before you arrive on campus:

Manage your account by changing your temporary password.

Download and install Microsoft Office for free on up to 15 devices (it will already be installed on your UCT computer).

Download UCT Mobile, the university's all-in-one-mobile app for your phone.


When you get to campus:

Connect to eduroam (the wireless network) either automatically (with the CAT tool) or manually.

Connect your device(s) to the internet.

Access your email.

Set up your telephone and voicemail password.

Set up your phone extension to forward to your mobile device.

Set up email on your mobile devices.

Sign into Vula, your online learning portal.

Browse and install any free or site-licensed software you might need for your studies from our downloads site.

Access LinkedIn Learning for thousands of tutorials from subject matter experts

Access G suite offering you all the Google apps and 10TB of cloud storage

Familiarise yourself with the ICTS Service Level Agreement to see what services are available to you.

If you have ICT problems or need advice, visit the Front Office or log calls online.

Protect yourself online:

Install McAfee antivirus software on your computer.

Set up your computer to receive either Windows, Mac or Linux updates.

Always be on the lookout for suspicious emails and links.

Report any cybersecurity incidents to the CSIRT (UCT's Computer Security Incident Response Team).
