User roles and responsibilities for the Drupal CMS

User profilesRoles are assigned to users depending on the contribution they will be making to the website. Different levels of access are assigned to each of the roles and are activated when you log onto the site using UCT's Single Sign-on Authentication.

The user roles on the Drupal platform are as follows:

  • Page Manager (PM)a page manager is responsible for pages on a specific site and can create standard webpages only.

  • Content Manager (CM) – a content manager can create, edit and read published and unpublished content as well as upload and link to multimedia.

  • Senior Content Manager (SCM) – a senior content manager can assign and revoke CM and PM roles. This manager can access the Web CMS and create and edit all content, read published and unpublished content as well as upload and link to multimedia.  The SCM cannot edit content in the home page custom regions.

  • Domain Administrator (DA) – a domain administrator has a higher level of authority than the SCM and, among other things, can create theme customisations for the website by altering the main stylesheet (CSS) of the site. They are able to assign and revoke the SCM, CM and PM roles and can read and edit all published and unpublished content.

More information on what these permissions entail is contained in the training manuals for the web CMS:
